Just over half an hour from Painswick is Slimbridge Wetland Centre, a fascinating place to see migrating birds and witness the results of their conservation and breeding programmes. A few miles from there is Pulton Hulks on the Severn where boats have been placed along the bank to stop the river eroding towards the Gloucester and Sharpness canal. It is a fabulous walk and the boats have become sculptural as they decay.
